MeetGeek Chrome Extension Quickstart Guide

Install the MeetGeek Chrome Extension and record meetings with or without the Notetaker, follow along with live transcription, and control your scheduled calls from your browser.

Written by Dan Huru

The MeetGeek Chrome Extension lets you record and transcribe meetings straight from your browser — with or without the Notetaker — follow along with live transcription, and control your scheduled meetings and recordings without leaving the call. This guide covers installing it and using every feature.

In this guide:

How to install the extension

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for MeetGeek AI Meeting Summaries, or use the button below.

  2. Click Add to Chrome, then Add extension in the popup window.

  3. The MeetGeek extension appears in your navigation bar. Click the pin icon so you always have quick access to your meeting controls.

  4. Click the MeetGeek icon in the navigation bar to open the extension on the right side.

How the extension works

A. Chrome Screen Recorder (no bot)

If you prefer not to use the Notetaker, or you're having issues with bot permissions, the Chrome Screen Recorder is a great alternative. It captures and transcribes meetings directly from your browser, with no bot joining the call. Use the widget on the left side of your screen and click the video camera icon to start recording.

Note: The widget only appears on the meeting page when you're using the browser version of Google Meet, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams.

For the complete walkthrough, see the Chrome Recorder setup guide.

B. Notetaker bot recorder

Use the widget on the left side of your screen and click the second icon (the sparkle icon). This sends an invitation for the Notetaker to join your call as a guest.

Note: It takes up to a minute for the Notetaker to reach the lobby. Make sure it's admitted into the call.

C. Live transcription (Google Meet)

The extension supports live transcription for Google Meet, letting you follow the conversation in real time without waiting for the meeting to end.

With live transcription, you can:

  • See speech transcribed as the meeting happens.

  • Switch apps or lock your screen without losing context.

  • Capture meetings even when recording without a bot.

Live transcription works directly within your Google Meet browser tab.

D. Access past meetings

Click the Folder icon to open your most recent past meetings. Click any meeting to open it in a separate window and review the recording, transcript, or summary.

E. Manage Notetaker join settings for scheduled meetings

Click the Calendar icon to see all your upcoming and scheduled meetings.

From this tab you can make quick edits to your upcoming meetings:

  • Pause and resume the recording of a running meeting.

  • Skim through your upcoming meetings.

  • Toggle whether the Notetaker joins each meeting.

  • Change the language or select a different template for the meeting.

F. Invite the Notetaker to an ad-hoc meeting

Click the Upload icon in the extension window to invite the Notetaker to a live meeting or any call that isn't scheduled in your calendar.

Then use one of these methods:

  1. Click Copy Email and send an email to the copied address to invite the Notetaker.

  2. Preferred: enter the meeting link in the Invite via link field and click Invite notetaker.

Once done, you'll see a success message — the Notetaker will join shortly.

If your recording is unsuccessful, you can open your extension and check if you have any recordings crashed and you can retry/download the file.

Note: It takes 30 to 60 seconds for the Notetaker to join your ad-hoc meeting.
