Getting Started with MeetGeek Desktop App

The MeetGeek Desktop App lets you record meetings directly from your computer — no bot required. Whether you're in a conference room or on a video call, the app captures your audio, uploads it automatically, and delivers AI-powered insights to your inbox.

System Requirements

The desktop app currently supports macOS with Apple Silicon (M1 chip or newer) only.

The following are not yet supported but are planned for future releases:

  • macOS with Intel processors

  • Windows

  • Linux

⚠️ Unsupported systems: Installing the app on an unsupported device may cause crashes or prevent the app from opening. Check your Mac's chip type by going to Apple menu → About This Mac before downloading.

Sign-In Requirements

You must have a MeetGeek account linked to Google to use the desktop app. Microsoft and Apple login are not yet supported.

⚠️ Microsoft or Apple account users: If your MeetGeek account was created with Microsoft or Apple authentication, you won't be able to sign in to the desktop app yet. Use the web app in the meantime. Support for these login methods is coming in a future release.

Setting Up the App

1. Sign In

Open the MeetGeek Desktop App and sign in with your Google account. You'll be prompted to grant microphone permissions — this is required for recording.

To grant microphone access manually, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and enable MeetGeek.

2. Automatic Meeting Detection

Once you're signed in, the app runs quietly in the background and detects when a meeting is in progress. When it does, a notification appears asking if you'd like to start recording.

You can also start a recording manually at any time from the app.

Note: Detection is highly accurate but may occasionally trigger during non-meeting activity (calls, media playback, noisy environments). Always confirm the prompt before starting a recording.

Recording a Meeting

The app supports two types of recordings:

In-Person Meetings

The app uses your computer's built-in microphone to capture room audio — ideal for conference rooms, workshops, or on-site client meetings. For the best results, place your laptop centrally and reduce background noise where possible.

Web Meetings (Without a Bot)

The app records audio from your online meeting locally, so there's no need to add a bot to the call. This is useful when you want a lightweight recording experience or when bots aren't permitted in a meeting.

Note: Bot controls (adding, removing, or managing the MeetGeek bot) are not available in the desktop app yet. To manage the bot, use the Chrome Extension or mobile app.

After Your Meeting

When you stop recording, the app saves the file locally and automatically uploads it for processing.

If the upload fails — for example, due to a lost connection — you can retry it directly from the app.

⚠️ Don't delete local recordings until the upload is confirmed. Removing the file before it's successfully uploaded will prevent the recording from being processed.

Accessing Your Meeting Insights

Once processing is complete, you'll receive your results by email. You can also view insights anytime in the web app or mobile app.

Meeting insights are not yet viewable inside the desktop app itself — this is planned for a future release.

Current Limitations

This is the first release of the desktop app, focused on building a solid recording foundation. Some features are still in development:

Area

Current Status

Supported platforms

macOS Apple Silicon only

Authentication

Google login only

Bot controls

Not available in desktop app

In-app meeting insights

Not available in desktop app

If any of these limitations affect your workflow, the web app, Chrome extension, and mobile app remain fully functional alongside the desktop app.

Troubleshooting

The app won't open. Confirm your Mac is running Apple Silicon (M1 or newer). Intel Macs are not supported in this version.

I can't sign in. Only Google login is supported. If your account uses Microsoft or Apple authentication, use the web app for now.

Microphone isn't working. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security →

Microphone and make sure MeetGeek has permission.

Upload failed. Keep the local recording file and retry the upload from within the app. Do not delete the file until the upload succeeds.

Meeting detection triggered at the wrong time. This can happen during non-meeting audio activity. Simply dismiss the prompt — no recording will start without your confirmation.
