Data Residency: Where Your Data Is Stored

Where MeetGeek stores your data (EU and US residency), how it's encrypted, whether it's used to train AI, sub-processors, retention, and how to set your data region.

Written by Dan Huru

MeetGeek offers both EU and US data residency, and for European customers your data stays within the European Economic Area (EEA) — at both the storage layer and the AI processing layer. This guide explains where your data lives, how it's protected, whether it's used to train AI models, and how to set or confirm your data region.

In this guide:

Where your data is stored

MeetGeek hosts data on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in a multi-region EU setup. For European customers, production data stays within the EEA — and uniquely, so does the AI processing: large language model (LLM) analysis for European customers runs through an EU data-residency instance, so summaries and AI features are generated without your meeting content leaving the EEA. Speech-to-text runs in EU regions where available. US data residency is available for non-EU customers.

How your data is protected

Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256). Backups are encrypted and replicated across multiple EU regions. Access to customer data is governed by role-based access control, least-privilege principles, and multi-factor authentication, and all access is logged and reviewed.

Is my data used to train AI models?

No. Your meeting content is not used to train external AI models. AI processing runs under a zero-retention configuration with our LLM sub-processor, meaning your data is used only to generate your results and is not retained by the model provider for training.

Who are MeetGeek's sub-processors?

MeetGeek uses a small set of vetted sub-processors for infrastructure, transcription, AI processing, payments, and customer support. Each is covered by a data processing agreement with GDPR Article 28 terms, and EU Standard Contractual Clauses apply where a support-class tool processes limited data outside the EEA. The full, always-current list is published here:

Data retention

Retention periods are defined per data category (account data, recordings, transcripts, support data, and logs). You can also configure retention at the workspace level, and delete recordings or export your data at any time. Enterprise customers can arrange custom or zero data-retention policies.

To remove data or delete your account, see Data Deletion Guidelines.

Choosing or confirming your data region

Your data region (EU or US) is set for your account. To choose, confirm, or change your region — or to discuss custom data-retention, on-premise storage, or Enterprise residency options — contact your account manager or [email protected].

Certifications and Security Portal

MeetGeek maintains SOC 2 Type II, and complies with GDPR and CCPA. HIPAA-eligible use is supported for qualifying customers under a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) — contact us to arrange one.
